Discover our land!

Bernina express

The “Bernina red train” connects Tirano (30km from Bormio) to the renowned Swiss town of the Engadine, Sankt Moritz.
The Bernina Express, which actually has nothing fast, became a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2008. Along a breathtaking route, the highest train in Europe climbs the Alps without using the cogwheel. More than a train ride, it is an unforgettable experience for the eyes and the soul.

Great local food

The king of Valtellinese cuisine is certainly the pizzocchero! If you don’t know these buckwheat noodles seasoned with casera cheese, butter, cabbage and potatoes, you just have to come and visit us! We will also reveal our favorite trattorias where you can taste them, perhaps before a walk through the vineyards and a wine tasting. Ours is the land of mountain Nebbiolo: a late ripening vine that has been able to create a perfect union with this land over the centuries, giving birth to wines of great quality as well as extraordinary elegance.

Few people know, but in the heart of the historic center of Bormio, AMARO BRAULIO has been produced for over 200 years. The original recipe of the Peloni Pharmacist will remain a secret, but the scent of alpine herbs will remain in your memory for a long time after a visit to the cellars of the same name.

Art, culture & history

A borderland, of wars and trade between north and south, Valtellina continues to tell its history with towers, museums and ancient trenches. During your stay in Bormio you can also get to know this aspect of our region!

A few ideas:

WW1 Fort Venini of Oga
The trenches still visible during numerous excursions (e.g. Piz Umbrail)
The noble palaces of Valtellina (Palazzo Besta in Teglio, Palazzo Salis in Tirano)
Rock engravings in Grosio
Bagnada mines in Lanzada
Numerous small ethnographic museums
